DESCRIPTION
Travel south of Pamplona to the medieval town of Olite, nestled between the mountains and plains. Its Mediterranean climate makes Olite the wine capital of Navarre with multiple bodegas sited in the town and surrounding areas.
We’ll visit the Royal Palace first, an excellent example of the town during the Middle Ages when it was a Royal Seat. The “old” and “new” palace were built during the 14th and 15th centuries, respectively.
The town was the favourite residence of King Carlos III ‘el Noble’ (1337-1425), whose lavish palace included exotic animals such as giraffes, lions and buffalo and authentic hanging gardens.
Following the Palace visit, we’ll head to a local winery to tour their facilities and learn how the wine is made, before having a wine tasting.
The winery we visit depends on the time of day and day of the week. We need a minimum of 2 people to be able to run Olite’s Palace and Winery.
